The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), who is currently on an official visit to Israel, today held a high-level historic meeting with the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu. The meeting marked a significant milestone and the beginning of a new era in diplomatic relations and strategic cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and Israel.
President Cirro expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Netanyahu for what he described as the courageous, historic, and diplomatically significant decision by the Government of Israel to formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state on December 26, 2025. This landmark decision opened a new chapter in Somaliland’s long-standing pursuit of international recognition.
The President emphasized that Israel’s recognition was not merely a diplomatic act, but a formal acknowledgment of Somaliland’s political, legal, and historical reality. He noted that for more than thirty-five years, Somaliland has demonstrated to the world a successful model built on peace, democracy, state-building, stability, and good governance.
During the visit, the Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel officially signed a Strategic Cooperation Declaration. This historic agreement lays the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership and strengthens cooperation between the two countries in key sectors, including the economy, security, technology, investment, and social development.
The declaration symbolizes the beginning of a new phase in Somaliland–Israel relations, establishing a formal framework for deeper cooperation based on mutual respect, trust, shared interests, and common aspirations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) presented Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Somaliland’s National Medal of Honor in recognition of his government's decision to grant full recognition to the Republic of Somaliland.
