Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today met with the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.
The two leaders first held a private one-on-one meeting, followed by an expanded bilateral session attended by senior officials from both governments.
On the Israeli side, participants included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chief of Staff, the Government Secretary, the Military Secretary, Israel’s Ambassador to Somaliland, and other senior officials.
The Somaliland delegation included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of the Presidency, the Minister of Water Development, the President’s Chief of Staff, the Chief of the General Staff of the Somaliland Armed Forces, the Somaliland Ambassador to Israel, and other senior officials.
Joint Declaration Signed
At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Cirro signed a Joint Declaration aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two states.
The agreement is expected to enhance collaboration across a range of sectors, including diplomacy, security, economic development, investment, technology, and regional cooperation.
Following the signing ceremony, both leaders delivered official statements highlighting the importance of the growing relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
Netanyahu: "We Are Proud to Be the First Country to Recognize Somaliland”
In his remarks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s support for Somaliland and highlighted the significance of the relationship between the two nations.
Addressing President Cirro, he stated:
"We are proud, and I am proud that my government is the first government on the planet to recognize Somaliland. We are united by the same belief that freedom, democracy and opportunity are stronger than extremism, terrorism and chaos.”
A New Chapter in Somaliland–Israel Relations
The meeting marks a significant milestone in the deepening partnership between Somaliland and Israel. The high-level discussions and the signing of the Joint Declaration reflect both countries’ commitment to expanding diplomatic ties and advancing cooperation based on shared values, mutual respect, and common interests.
