The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), has warned Somalia against what he described as foreign interference in Somaliland’s affairs, stressing that Somaliland is fully capable of defending itself and protecting its people.
Speaking during Eid al-Adha prayers in Hargeisa, President Irro called on both Somalia and Djibouti to uphold peace, good neighborly relations, and mutual respect among neighboring countries.
"Many countries have shown hostility toward Somaliland, yet we have not harmed anyone,” President Irro said.
He emphasized that Somaliland’s foreign policy is built on peaceful coexistence, diplomacy, and mutual respect, particularly with neighboring countries in the Horn of Africa.
"Somaliland’s foreign policy is based on good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, especially with neighboring countries such as Djibouti and Somalia,” he added.
The President also reiterated Somaliland’s commitment to regional stability and cooperation, while underlining the country’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests.
His remarks come amid growing political and diplomatic tensions in the region, as Somaliland continues to strengthen its international partnerships and strategic relations.
