The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), today convened a mediation meeting between the National Electoral Commission of Somaliland (NEC) and the KAAH Party in order to resolve a dispute that arose from a decision issued by the NEC regarding voter registration, particularly the option concerning the number of registration centers. The issue had led the KAAH Party to suspend its cooperation with the NEC.
Following extensive dialogue and mediation led by the President of Somaliland, the two sides officially resolved their differences and jointly expressed their appreciation to the President for his important role in bringing the National Electoral Commission and the KAAH Party closer together.
In order to continue the significant work ahead of the National Electoral Commission and the political parties, both sides agreed on the following points:
To officially restore the cooperation between the National Electoral Commission (NEC) and the KAAH Party.
To establish a joint technical committee composed of representatives from both sides to actively address the technical issues that caused the disagreement.
To hold another meeting after Eid al-Fitr in order to continue discussions and finalize the remaining pending matters.
The Republic of Somaliland has a long-standing positive tradition of resolving political disputes through dialogue, compromise, and internal solutions, ensuring that disagreements are settled within the country rather than seeking solutions from outside.
