The Republic of Somaliland inaugurated its Mission Office in Nairobi on Thursday, 29 May, during an official ceremony presided over by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro). The opening represents a significant diplomatic step for all Somalilanders, despite earlier reservations from the Kenyan government regarding the establishment of a liaison office.

The ceremony was attended by senior Kenyan government officials, representatives from the international community, and dignitaries from Somaliland. Notable Kenyan leaders present at the event included Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and Marsabit Senator Mohamed Said Chute.

The newly opened Mission in Nairobi will serve as Somaliland’s official representation in Kenya, with a focus on enhancing bilateral relations through trade and investment, offering consular services, facilitating political dialogue, and providing support to the Somaliland community residing in Kenya.

This development is regarded as a diplomatic victory for Somaliland and a major step towards its broader ambition of gaining international recognition. Despite opposition from various quarters, the aspiration for Somaliland’s independence continues to gather momentum.

"Regardless of those who oppose it, the independence of Somaliland is imminent, and with the grace of Allah, it shall be realised. May Allah bless Somaliland and its people,
