The Managing Director
of Dahabshiil Group, Abdurashid Mohamed Said, spoke about the aid provided by
the company to those affected by the earthquake that hit Turkey. Abdurashid
Dahabshiil, who spoke to VOA, called on other Somali companies to assist those
affected by the earthquake in Turkey. He stated, "We are saddened by the
loss of many lives and the destruction caused by the earthquake in Turkey and
Syria, which claimed the lives of many innocent people. Dahabshiil has decided
to provide Turkey with two million dollars in aid, and we will be the first
Somali company to contribute financially. We also call on other Somali
companies to participate in assisting those affected."
Dahabshiil's management
also reported on the close relationship between Turkey and Somalis.
"Turkey has had a strong relationship with Somalis for decades, and many
young people have been educated there. Many businesses have also been
established between the two countries. When disasters occur and our people are
affected, Turkey is always there to help. We at Dahabshiil assist wherever
there is a disaster or where people are suffering from hunger. For example, we
recently provided two hundred thousand dollars to those affected in Las Anod.
We always want to help those in need, whether they are Somali, Turkish, or from
any other country. We work in 126 countries, and helping those affected by
disasters is our top priority."
Dahabshiil's management
also discussed the recent aid provided by Turkey to Somalia. "Turkey has
been a great partner to Somalia, and we have had a relationship for decades.
Recently, they assisted Mogadishu, and in the past, they have helped Berbera
and Saylac. Turkey is one of the Somali people. If we are Dahabshiil and we
work all over the world, we want to participate wherever there is a disaster or
where people are suffering. We want to help those affected in any way we can,
whether they are our customers, our company, or the community."
