‎through trade and belief, not conquest or coercion.

‎long before Lebanon, Kuwait, and the Gulf,

‎long before Yemen, the rest of Arabia, Persia, Pakistan, and Anatolia (Turkey),

‎felt the touch of Islam on its shores.

‎Here, Muslims, Jews, Christians, and others of different beliefs lived side by side, in Zeila and Berbera, trading, learning, praying together.

‎We don’t need lessons in compassion.

‎We are Somalilanders.

‎Faithful, peaceful, resilient, and humane.

‎We survived the cruelty of men, and still, we stand,

‎rooted in truth, in prayer, in peace, in coexistence

‎and we are proud of our true democracy, a beacon of freedom and governance in the Horn of Africa.
