Italy's Parliament Speaker Accepts His Somali Counterpart Invite To Visit Somalia.
The Speaker of the
Lower House of the Somali Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor Madobe, has
invited his Italian counterpart, Lorenzo Fonta, to visit Somalia, which Mr
Lorenzo Fonta has accepted, the Somali parliament house announced on Tuesday.
The invitation was made
during a meeting between the two speakers in Rome, Italy. However, the Somali
Parliament has not disclosed the specific date for the visit.
During their meeting,
the speakers discussed the continued relationship and cooperation between the
Parliaments of Somalia and Italy. They also explored the possibility of establishing
a friendship committee between the two Parliaments and deliberated on
strengthening the enduring ties between their respective governments.
Mr. Lorenzo Fonta, the
Speaker of the Italian Parliament, commended the commitment of the Somali
government in its efforts to liberate the country from the al-Shabab terrorist
group.
Historically, Somalia
and Italy share a rich history of strong trade and friendly relations dating
back to the colonial period when Somalia was under Italian rule.
